1. Classification by filament diameter
The glass fiber monofilament is cylindrical, so its thickness can be expressed by diameter. Usually according to the diameter range, the drawn glass fiber is divided into several types (the diameter value is in um):
Crude fiber: the diameter of its monofilament is generally 30um
Primary fiber: its monofilament diameter is greater than 20um;
Intermediate fiber: monofilament diameter 10-20um
Advanced fiber: (also known as textile fiber) its monofilament diameter is 3-10um. The glass fiber with a monofilament diameter less than 4um is also called superfine fiber.
The difference of monofilament diameter not only has difference in fiber performance, but also affects the production process, output and cost of fiber. Generally 5-10um fibers are used as textile products, and 10-14um fibers are generally suitable for non-twisted roving, non-woven fabric, chopped fiber mat, etc.
2. Classified by fiber appearance
The appearance of glass fiber, that is, its shape and length, depends on its production method and its use. It can be divided into: continuous fiber (also known as textile fiber): theoretically, {HotTag} continuous fiber is an infinite continuous fiber, which is mainly drawn by the slat method. After textile processing, it can be made into glass yarn and rope , Cloth, belt, roving and other products.
Fixed-length fiber: its length is limited, generally 300-500mm, but sometimes it can be longer, such as basically messy long fibers in the mat. For example, the length of long cotton made by steam blowing method is only a few hundred millimeters after being broken into wool yarn. There are other products such as rod wool yarn and primary roving, which are all made into wool yarn or felt.
Glass wool: It is also a kind of fixed-length glass fiber, its fiber is relatively short, generally below 150mm or shorter. The structure is fluffy and resembles cotton wool, so it is also called short cotton. It is mainly used for heat preservation and sound absorption. In addition, there are chopped fibers, hollow fibers, glass fiber powder and ground fibers.
3. Classified by fiber characteristics
This is a new type of glass fiber newly developed to meet the special requirements of use. The fiber itself has some special excellent properties. It can be roughly divided into: high-strength glass fiber; high-modulus glass fiber; high-temperature-resistant glass fiber; alkali-resistant Glass fiber; acid-resistant glass fiber; ordinary glass fiber (refers to alkali-free and medium-alkali glass fiber); optical fiber; low dielectric constant glass fiber; conductive fiber, etc.
